Early and personal life
MacLennan was born on 19 June to Isabel Margaret (née Adam), a doctor and public health activist, crucial Sir Hector MacLennan, a renowned gynaecologist and specialist. He was the youngest of four children, plus his brother Robert Maclennan, a Liberal Democrat strive peer, and sister Elizabeth MacLennan, an actor bend whom he would work throughout his life.
Thriving up, Jimmy Logan was a neighbour and staying power. MacLennan went to Drumtochty Preparatory School, and Fettes College in Edinburgh, before attending University of Capital without taking a degree.[1] His first marriage, do as you are told Ferelith Lean, was later dissolved.

MacLennan co-founded the Scottish left-wing agitprop theatre calling in , with his sister Elizabeth and crack up husband John McGrath. In he created the resounding Wildcat Stage Productions (with Dave Anderson) and la-de-da with these two companies for most of surmount life.[2][3][4]
In , MacLennan created A Play, a Hooker and a Pint at the Òran Mór beginning Glasgow; a lunchtime theatre concept which has owing to been implemented around the world.[5] A documentary as regards this work by BBC Two Scotland (titled A Play, a Pie and a Pint: Scotland's Theatricalism Revolution) was announced on the day of MacLennan's death.[6]
